RENTAL PETS WELCOME - LANDLORDS SIGNED UP IN A MOVE TO SAVE ANIMAL LIVES

BY GILL VOWLES
The Sunday Tasmanian 23/5/2010

THE Tasmanian private housing market has gone to the dogs in a bid to save lives. In an Australian first, First National real estate now has a pet-friendly rental service.

First National director Deanne Lamprey of Burnie said a goal was to cut the 79,000 Australian domestic animals facing euthanasia each year.

‘‘Of the animals surrendered each year 23 per cent of cats and 30 per cent of dogs are relinquished because of the lack of rental accommodation,’’ Ms Lamprey said.

‘‘It is a major community problem and First National decided to do something about it.’’

CASH COMPETITION TURNS GREEN

First National has launched a competition giving away ‘green’ cash as an incentive for its customers to join its quest and become more energy conscious while winning money for themselves and their local communities.

“Reduce Your Footprint to Save the Earth”, a fun interactive web-game, is the cornerstone of the promotion and features the network’s iconic ‘running man’.  Participants are invited to hunt for environmentally friendly items in a bid to save the planet.

Anyone logging on to www.firstnational.com.au and joining in the quest during the month of September is eligible to win one of twelve $5,000 cash prizes, with the money being equally divided between the winner and their nominated local community group or organisation.

INVESTORS CIRCLING CITY

BY SEAN FORD
The Advocate 15/08/2009

INVESTORS appear to be preparing to swoop on the Burnie property market as the first home owners' frenzy winds down.

"We're getting a few (first home buyers) still buying, but it's not the frenzy it was before," First National Real Estate Burnie principal Deanne Lamprey said yesterday.

"In the last couple of weeks, guess who we've had on the phone to; all the investors again."

The Rudd government's beefed-up First Home Owners Grant will decrease at the end of September and revert to the normal level of $7000 at the end of December.

Ms Lamprey said most of the people taking advantage of the higher grant had done so by June 30, when it was originally expected to end.

She said investors had been indicating they would hold off until the grant wound down because they believed it had inflated prices.

She said she believed that had been the case on the mainland, but not so much locally.

"The first couple of weeks of July were quiet, which is normal in any year with people worried about getting their tax done, but we're starting to see a lot more inquiry."

She tipped local affordability would ensure the property market in Burnie and surrounding areas "continues to reign supreme", with the start of an earlier than expected recovery in the national market.

"Burnie's median sale price for houses increased by 23.2% in May on the previous month, and in the first six months by 5-10%.

INVEST IN SOME ADVICE SAYS FIRST NATIONAL

As investors return to the property market, First National Real Estate Burnie, Principal, Deanne Lamprey, says wise investing which maximises returns on investment requires research and patience as well as expert advice.

'The property market has turned a corner and for as long as property remains undervalued and offers strong yields, it will continue to outperform many, if not most, other asset classes, making it an attractive option for investors,” Deanne Lamprey, said.

RENTING WITH PETS - IT'S A MATTER OF RESPONSIBILITY

“Landlords aren’t out to rid the world of pets, they just want to know that you are a responsible pet owner that will respect their concerns, and their property,” Deanne Lamprey said.
